I installed the free version of Paid Memberships Pro yesterday, and everything seemed to be going fine. But today I found I couldn’t access the website at all. I received this message when using the Brave browser:

    This page isn’t working

irg.space redirected you too many times.
    Try clearing your cookies.
    ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS

and this message when using FireFox:

    The page isn’t redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for
this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to
    accept cookies.

The wp-login.php administrative login still worked. I then disabled Paid Memberships Pro, and the website worked again. I can reenable the plugin if that would be helpful for troubleshooting purposes, but until this is resolved we won’t be able to permanently enable the plugin. Please let me know how to proceed. Thank you.

    Hi Douglas,

Thank you for using Paid Memberships Pro.

Can you tell me more about your page setup what setting do you have for the Log In page under the Paid Memberships Pro page settings?

When a non-member tries to visit their account page, Paid Memberships Pro tries to redirect the user’s to the log in page.

Please can you ensure that the Log In page, is not the same as the Membership Account page. Another option is to set the Log In page to “Use WordPress Default” for the time being.

Paid Memberships Pro does not redirect away from the wp-login.php URL as a ‘safety’ precaution for cases like this.

Thank you for the advice, Andrew. I tried to set the Login page to the WordPress default page, but it had no effect on the problem. When Paid Memberships Pro is activated, the entire website is still unreachable no matter the setting of the Login page parameter.

Perhaps useful further information: We have tried both “No” and “Yes” to use our SSL certificate, with no change in the problem. We aren’t using any add-ons to Paid Memberships Pro, and we just had the plugin generate all the required pages rather than select or edit them ourselves. We haven’t configured a payment gateway yet. But changing the setting from any particular gateway to “Testing Only” and then setting the SSL certificate use value to “No” has allowed the website to work with the plugin enabled. So it appears to be an issue with the SSL certificate and any payment gateway. (This is a guess.)

Thanks for the feedback here, this is okay to set the “Force SSL” to “No” as it sounds like your site is already forcing SSL.

We are planning to improve on this feature in the near future of Paid Memberships Pro.

I’m glad to hear that you’ve made progress on troubleshooting this.
