    Dear developer / community,

Yesterday I came across this great plugin. I am going to setup a website next week and install it. I already use it on another website and I like it a lot.

I was wondering: with this plugin users can subscribe to daily email for posts in certain categories.

Is it possible (in the near future say within 6 months) to add a weekly option? So that users can select what categories they want information about, but instead of emailing them daily, sent an email once per week with all the new posts in thier subscribed categories?

From a user perspective I think that that would be great. I don’t have time during the working days to check new posts of blogs that I follow. However in the weekend I would like to have an overview and go to the posts that i’m interested in. A subscriber asked me this.

Thanks in advance for comments / answering this post,

    Kind regards,

    David

Good thinking, I am sure this is possible.
Daily option will stay as is, but I will add 7 more check boxes for each day of the week one. This will give you the choice on which day(s) of the week to send posts. As always multiple post to the same subscriber is merged in to one notification.
WP 5.7 is on the brink of being released (9 March 2021). I think this feature will then also be ready.

Great! Thank you for your fast response!

Could I also allow the user to select this option? So that the user is able to select how often he / she wants an email…
So for category 1, weekly, category 2 daily and so on?

And if i may speak about my ‘dream-plugin’, if a user is subscribed to multiple categories within ‘week’, do they get 1 email with merged posts of different categories or one email per category?

    Thanks!

    1. Choice of trigger per category is a no

    2. When trigger is due all post that meet the subscriber’s criteria are merged in to one email notification.

    3. Need to think about the user choosing the moment STC sends the email notification. That might be doable, but it needs some more digging to see how much work it is. You are changing the thinking behind STC that a user is notified when something of interest to him has occurred. Into do not bother me with notifications unless I tell you when you can. At best it will be weekdays, daily, asap per subscriber

thanks and sorry, just trying to help here with some input, not trying to ruin your days πŸ™

If I offended you, then I apologize. I tried to explain that you are opening a new way of using subscriptions.
If you can live with the choice or weekday’s (mon, thu, wed, thu, fri, sat, sun) or ASAP for each individual subscriber and you are happy with this I can start thinking on the best way to implement this. If this is not what you want than STC can’t help you.

Ah okay, than i partly misunderstood. I can live with the choice yes. That would be great.

    Thank you,

Please have a look on this image to see how it would look for an individual subscriber.
Giving the individual subscriber a choice on time of day or seconds between 180 and 3600 second would lead to uncontrollable number of scheduled jobs in the event housekeeping. So, it will not be possible for an individual subscriber to decide time of day etc…

Let my know what you think and if you still are happy with what I have got sofar.

Yes this would be ideal! Great how fast you are able to do this!

In this way, the subscriber is able to select 1 day a week or daily notifications πŸ™‚

    Thank you very much

The complex part is coming up now. Staying within the concept of STC and at the same time adding postponing notifications for specific subscribers. This will include database work to remember postponed notifications.
By the way, the individual subscribers can select on or more weekdays at the same time.

    Yeah I understand.

If you would like to roll it out in an upcoming update, I would be happy to help by testing and giving feedback. Also if you have an experimental version or if I can help in any other way.

I am very thankful for your responsiveness and actually considering programming this!

Version 2.5.4. has been made available. This version is WP 5.7 tested and contains also new placeholders. For testing purposes a per subscriber e-mail notification is added. To activate this feature the attribute subscriber_notification=”true” must be added to the stc-subscribe shortcode.

    Greetings to all,
    Sidney

In our installation, the hourly (interval 3600s) Mails are being sent but not the daily and also not the subscriber_notification when chosen weekdays are selected.
We have not been able to find the cause.

Any suggestions what could cause this?

We are using 2.5.9 of stc
    WP Mail SMTP
and an external cronjob scheduler to make sure cron runs.

Please reinstall version 2.5.9 and let me kmow if the problem persist.

We reinstalled the plugin but nothing changed.
We now also tried the plugin on different wordpress installations: It worked!

Then we ruled out conflicts with other plugins and the theme by disabling each and testing.
    Changed the Theme
We also changed the time format in General settings of WordPress.

    So far, no luck.

Please delete table wp_stc_joblist in the wordpress database. wp_ is the prefix this might be different on your site
