Weird RSS feeds oriented toward my server!
-
I am not into servers or programming, so I need some help with this.
My host, Pair, keeps telling me I’m exceeding my bandwidth and charging me for it. I moved some big files off the server and moved up to a higher-bandwidth account and that helped for a while, but the problem is back.
This time, when I asked Pair what could be causing it, they found that strange RSS feeds are “oriented toward” the two domains that I have WordPress sites on, machigai.com and deconstructingcomics.com. (Some are also oriented toward my other domain, which isn’t even a WordPress site!)
They look like this:
1 www.timyoungonline.com 27.83.178.114 - - [16/Oct/2018:00:01:04 -0400] "GET /wordpress/?feed=rss2# HTTP/1.1" 400 0 "-" "-" 1 www.timyoungonline.com 27.83.178.114 - - [16/Oct/2018:00:01:06 -0400] "GET /wordpress/?feed=rss2# HTTP/1.1" 400 0 "-" "-" 1 www.timyoungonline.com 27.83.178.114 - - [16/Oct/2018:00:01:08 -0400] "GET /wordpress/?feed=rss2# HTTP/1.1" 400 0 "-" "-" 1 www.timyoungonline.com 27.83.178.114 - - [16/Oct/2018:00:01:11 -0400] "GET /wordpress/?feed=rss2# HTTP/1.1" 400 0 "-" "-" 1 www.machigai.com 64.62.252.176 - - [12/Oct/2018:19:08:10 -0400] "GET /wordpress/?m=201608 HTTP/1.1" 200 96185 "-" "The Knowledge AI" 1 www.machigai.com 64.62.252.176 - - [12/Oct/2018:19:08:31 -0400] "GET /wordpress/?m=201607 HTTP/1.1" 200 95904 "-" "The Knowledge AI" 1 www.machigai.com 64.62.252.176 - - [12/Oct/2018:19:08:50 -0400] "GET /wordpress/?m=201606 HTTP/1.1" 200 96502 "-" "The Knowledge AI" 1 www.machigai.com 64.62.252.176 - - [12/Oct/2018:19:09:11 -0400] "GET /wordpress/?m=201605 HTTP/1.1" 200 95837 "-" "The Knowledge AI" 1 www.machigai.com 64.62.252.176 - - [12/Oct/2018:19:09:30 -0400] "GET /wordpress/?m=201604 HTTP/1.1" 200 96059 "-" "The Knowledge AI"Pair told me an .htaccess file could be used to block those IP addresses, but I don’t know how to set it up. But I wanted to ask here if this sort of thing has happened to other WordPress users, and what the fix is.
