Hey,
Can you see where does the update link lead to? (open in incognito)
Because filebird pro’s latest version is 6.4.9 on the plugin’s homepage, so it should not give update with no updates in changelog.
I would recommend not updating before asking the plugin support here.–>

The more general answer to your question is that commercial plugins (and themes) handle updates anyhow they wish, WordPress does not control this, since the updated plugin/theme files are not coming from WordPress servers.
- Some do not even provide any update notification in the dashboard, and the only way to know there’s an update is if you’re notified by the author or if you check their site. And you’ll need to manually upload the new version of the plugin.
- Some will provide the dashboard update notification, but you’ll still need to grab the file from their website and manually upload it to your site
- Some, perhaps the majority, will provide the dashboard notification and the standard one-click update, but only after you’ve validated your purchase (eg by entering a license key, validating your domain on the vendor’s website, etc)
- And a few commercial plugins and themes provide the standard one-click dashboard updates without any license verification.
So it’s a wild west out there when it comes to updating commercial WordPress plugins and themes, and, again, WordPress does not control the release process or even vet the security of these commercial products!

Thanks for defining this for me George. It seems that many of the plugins I’ve been using for 10-15 years have recently been deciding not to include the update links. I looked at one of my other websites and saw the “update now” link so you’re right, it’s wild and unpredictable. Old habit slow to break but I’ll get used to looking at the updates at the top of the admin page.
Cheers!
