I am using Duplicator to restore a site that had WF active at the time of backup and the restore is being blocked by WF, with:

Block Reason: A potentially unsafe operation has been detected in your request to this site

    Screen: https://i.imgur.com/Yz7dyNH.png

    (Duplicator) URL being accessed: /dup-installer/main.installer.php

I am not able to disable WF prior to backup. How do I disable it for the restore?

Hi @seanys, thanks for your question.

If you’re unable to backup the site again with the WAF turned off, other users have had luck opening the backup zip file, editing either .htaccess or .user.ini (depending on your platform). Commenting out (by prefixing the line with a “;”) the line that begins with “auto_prepend_file”. Save the file, then add it to the backup zip file and start the restore.

After restore, edit the .htaccess or .user.ini file again and remove the prefixed “;” again to reactivate Wordfence.

    Thanks,
    Peter.
