    No, the plugin is also recompressing the images more efficiently (if possibly) using the jpegtran utility. The JPG and PNG formats are capable of altering their compression methods quite significantly in ways that do not affect the quality. The compression used by cameras and cell phones is not as good, because they are trying to conserve battery and be quick. Here we are using the slower, better compression to save as much space as possible without losing any data.

    So if I purchase the API keys for JPG/PNG lossy optimization, it’ll compress the files even further?

    Indeed, although it can vary from 30-80% depending on the image.
