• Hi,

I hope I post in the right section, if not, thanks to forgive me.

I’m using the ‘Email Encoder’ plugin on my WordPress website for a while now and I was satisfied with it so far: I received none to very little spam.

But since I updated WordPress to 6.4.1 and ‘Email Encoder’ plugin to 2.1.9 (which has been tested up to WP 6.3.2 only), I’m afraid the plugin doesn’t work anymore: when I go to the contact page of m y website and I inspect its HTML code, I can see the contact email address in clear, meaning, if I’m not wrong, that the plugin doesn’t obfuscate it anymore.

Furthermore the plugin developer has created a dedicated web page to check if a given page actually reveals email addresses or not (a verifying tool basically). Since few days, this page doens’t work anymore: it gives a 500 error, which isn’t reassuring.

I posted on the plugin support forum for help, but in the meantime, I wanted to have advice on the best free email encoder plugin for WP you guys can recommend as I don’t trust the ‘Email Encoder’ plugin for now.

Thanks a lot for the help,

Instead of using an encoded email address, consider a contact form plugin instead, like https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/jetpack/ or https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/contact-form-7/

They offer more functionality and can integrate with anti-spam measures.

    Thanks for your answer.
I already use WPForm for my contact page. And this is the page I can see the email address in clear text when looking at the HTML code by pressing F12 in Chrome browser.
And I can see the email address in clear text when I inspect other pages of my website as well, as the email address is in the footer of all pages.

Since you already have a contact form, have you considered just editing your theme to remove your email address from the footer?

The thing is I want to have my email address visible on the footer.
Can you recommend me any good, free WordPress plugin to obfuscate it?

I would recommend mentioning your problem with Email encoder in their support forum. A developer or other user of this plugin will surely be able to provide a solution: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/plugin/email-encoder-bundle/

Another tip: if you are using an optimisation plugin (WP Rocket, Litespeed etc.), try it without it.

Thanks @threadi: I already mentioned the issue on the developer support forum here: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/wpemailencoder-com-is-down/#post-17212853

In the meantime a user told me how to check the source code before javascript get executed, and when I do so, I’m not able to see the email address anymore, which means the plugin still does a great job at obfuscating the email address.
So I will stick with this plugin for now and see how it goes in the future.
If it appears to be not updated, I will take action and choose another one but for now, it’s ok I guess.
