• Ok I’m adding content to my site now that is powered by the lastest version of WordPress of course and I do a lot of direct html editing in wordpress and (in the little rich text editor that is) when I add a <span>whatever</span> span and save it WordPress takes the span out, why is this?

  • Because you’re in the rich text editor. It hates code nad will actually eat it. Shocking but true.

    Basic editor for code.

How do I use the basic editor?

Might try going to Options -> Writing and unchecking “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” just for grins.

if that doesn’t get it, then you probably want to disable the wysiwyg editor as samboll mentioned above.

Users -> Your Profile, bottom-most checkbox, uncheck it.
