    Hi,

    just wondering how Imagify works.

My company uses Imagify as a plugin and when I check for images in the WordPress media folder, I can see the original image file size at the top and the optimized/Imagify image file size, including the % saving at the bottom.

Now, I always assumed that the optimized image, i.e. the Imagify optimized image, would then be displayed on the webpage. However, when I use GTMetrix, Pagespeed Insights, or the “inspect” tool, I can see that the file on the webpage is still the original file size.

So, how does Imagify help if the image file size displayed is still the same?

Does Imagify work only via cache or CDN? Or should technically the image displayed be only the Imagify version?

If for example Imagify reduces an image`s file size from 500KB to only 90KB, when will this 90KB then be displayed to a webpage visitor?

    Hi @stefanpfadt

    Thank you for contacting us!

When an image is getting optimized with Imagify then automatically it is getting replaced on your website. There is nothing further to do.

However, let me explain that when checking an image through Media Library(List View) on the optimization details column the New Filesize corresponds to the WebP version of the image if you have it created and not to the optimized version. Can you confirm if you have WebP created?

In order to display the WebP versions on your website you will have to enable the display WebP option through Settings > Imagify. Once it is enabled then on the following link you can see how to check if WebP is displayed on your site https://imagify.io/documentation/how-to-check-if-webp-image-is-displayed-on-your-site/

Can you share an example with an image URL where the optimized version is not being displayed?

    Best Regards,

    Ioanna
