Can someone please help me? I’ve been directed many times to the footer.php file to change the footer text but it’s like it this magical folder doesn’t exist for me. I’ve taken a screenshot of what I see after I go to Appearance-Editor and no matter which theme I use I get the same thing and it does not have any footer.php file. I want to include the screenshot here but I don’t see how. Can someone please help me so I can solve this mystery once and for all!
    thank you!

  • Hello,

I hate that you’re having a problem, but hopefully I can help.

In most themes, the footer.php file will be labeled “Footer” in the editor with “footer.php” listed in smaller text underneath. This makes it a little harder to see sometimes and it’s easy to gloss over it. See the following screenshot:

If you still don’t see it, would you mind linking your screenshot? You can use various image hosting services. I use imgur simply because it’s popular for another large social networking site and that’s what I’m used to.

Hi, thanks so much for your reply. My screen looks nothing like that, it looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/GShlbWn.png?1

Even if I click proceed, it still has the same info on the side. Any suggestions?

    Thank you for your help.

Actually this makes perfect sense. You have a child theme in place but no templates have been copied over to it yet. What you’ll need to do is copy the footer.php file from your parent theme into the same location in the child theme. This will make it editable from the theme editor.

You can copy the file in a number of ways depending on what your web host allows.

Ahhh okay. Learning something new every day! Thank you for telling me this, now I’ll research how to copy all that.
