    Hi,

I will soon be doing my first Joomla to WordPress migration, hopefully using this Plugin.

I understand that before I can run the importer I need to install WordPress. I have also found lots of helpful tutorials on how to use this Plugin to manage the migration.

However, everything I have found begins along the lines “Upload WordPress and then go to the admin panel to start the import process”.

Normally I just use the hosting company one-click install process and choose the domain purchased, and the WordPress core files are uploaded into a newly created directory usually called public_html or similar.

My question is, if there is already a Joomla site up and running, with a file structure and database etc. where do I install the WordPress core?

Also, I have also heard that it is best to use a new database for the WordPress install. Will that affect things?

Any advice anyone can offer much appreciated.

    Johnny

You can upload it to /wp for instance.
Once the WordPress site is ready, you can move the Joomla site to /joomla (as a backup) and move the WordPress site to the root, replacing Joomla.
You can use the same database as Joomla if you want. It doesn’t matter.
