Where to place 'Title' code

I’m trying to add the code <p>?php the_title(); ?></P> to the includes/meteor-slideshow.php file, in order to display my slide titles.
Wherever I place this code, the result is that my slide show disappears.

Could someone please explain where this code get placed? Thanks in advance.
