This is not so much of a support question, but why would we add meta data to the head of pages in 2015, when Google (and I think Yahoo and Bing?) explicitly says they don’t care about meta data when they index pages? Or have I misunhderstood what they say?

Great question. You have to keep in mind that the Web is not entirely made up of Google and the other search engines. In fact, the Web is made up of millions of different types of products, sites, and services, each doing their own thing. Some of these services employ metadata for a wide variety of reasons, too many to list here. In other words, just because something is not useful for SEO, does not mean that it is not useful for other things. And there are a LOT of other things out there — SEO is not everything, and metadata remains an excellent way of providing information. So this plugin is for sites that use metadata for whatever reason.
