I have been using WordPress/WooCommerce now for five years. I find it a great platform and a real let down at the same time.

I unfortunately am not a coder otherwise I would start working on the following issues:
    1. PLugins that are not compatible with my version of WordPress/WooCoimmerce, why are they even being listed!
    2. And I love this one. Under the Tools section or WordPress/WooCommerce it lists other tools that can be used, funny this is some of listed tools have not been tested on the past 3 or 4 releases of WP/WC.
    3. And this one, which is most likely why I will not take the time to learn coding. WP is listing features that they are selling in the admin section of your site! If this is not a conflict of interest I am not sure what is. If WP is advertising and charging for features then they should be paying each and every person that is help the platform get better!

The first two issues are ones that could be resolved with a little coding work. I know I said I was not a coder but I did spend many years as a SQA Tester, I can read code I just do not want to write it. Why someone has not coded a filter that sorts only features that actually work on your platform is beyond me.

  • The search function in the plugins area as well as the search function here on WP.org/plugins is meant for all users. Some users do not update as frequently as others. Plugins that have not been updated in three or more major releases typically should not be showing up in the search by default. Unfortunately, while this can be fixed with code that would detect the current installs versions it is unlikely that will happen any time soon. As for your third comment, I think this is a wp.com issue not a wp.org issue because wp.org does not have anything in the admin area that is being sold by default.

If I see a ‘dated’ plugin I like I’ll usually try it anyway. That might not be a good method for every user but I’ve found some good plugins here and there.

Sometimes a THANK YOU of some sort and a little interest can spur an author on to update their plugin when they’ve lost interest in it.

As to anything for sale over here on WordPress dot org or the dashboard itself. That’s not a part of the distribution package and WordPress dot org has nothing to sell.

I have never seen WordPress advertising anything for sale in the admin dashboard. Usually it’s a plugin or theme developer who will advertise their pro or enhanced version that way, and I agree, it’s very irritating. Most of the time, you can just X or dismiss it and it won’t show up anymore, but for those ads which persist, then I uninstall the offending theme or plugin.
