Hi brononius,
What is the exact shortcode that you are using?
Will you check if the widget works without the “auto-refresh” enabled and let me know? I am able to reproduce your result and it seems I have a bug I need to fix. If you could confirm, that would help.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention!
Version 2.0.9
Fix A widget having auto-refresh and category defined is pulling from all quotes instead of from defined category. (identified by: brononius)

Just tried it, and some improvement with the widget?
- When I refresh manually, it takes nicely quotes from the specific category (eg techniek).
- But when it’s on autorefresh, it seems to randomly take a quote from all categories?
ps thanks for you quick reply and action! Let me know if I can do (eg test) anything.
Please update the plugin and (clear your cache) let me know how it works?

I’ve got now running version 2.0.9. Not sure if there’s a newer one? I only see this one in the wordpress plugin list.
This is the version since yesterday, that has the issue with the autorefresh.
Same behavior in google chrome and Firefox. On linux OS and on android phone. Just cleared my cache, auto-refresh issue remains…
Yes, 2.0.9 should have provided the fix. Is it pulling from the defined (techniek) category? Are you having another issue with auto-refresh?
While in 2.0.8 I can reproduce the problem. In 2.0.9, it is pulling correctly from the defined category for all widgets and shortcodes. I am no longer able to reproduce the problem… it works as expected, as exampled here on my test page: https://oooorgle.com/testing/sample-page/
Perhaps try deactivating/activating or reinstalling the plugin. Not sure why it’s now still not working for you. Will ponder on it a bit more and get back to you.

Just tried both. First disable/enable of the plugin, and then a removal, and added as new plugin.
Data was still in de DB, but the auto-refresh is still showing all categories.
Just tried with another category, but the issue remains.

Try disabling all other plugins, especially any caching plugins like wp-optimize. Clear your cache and see what result we get with only the quotes-llama plugin enabled.
I can’t find your theme on WordPress. If your theme is a free theme, please provide a link if possible.
I disabled all plugins, cleared cache, but no luck. Still randomly all categories.
Same result with Google Chrome, firefox, web and google chrome on android phone.
This is the link to my page, if it can help: https://www.oniria.be
All plugins are back enabled.
I just created 3 test quotes in a category test, and this works?
I’ve added 2 widgets on my site, and sometimes the refresh goes nuts? Not important for me. just testing here. But maybe a feature for the future releases?
Anyone else out there experiencing the same result as Brononius?
For the timer going nuts… There is a known bug in the timer that when left for long periods of time they become out of sync. It’s the most frustrating and one of the first bugs ever identified and I still cannot figure out what the hell is going on with it and why it does that.
I am not sure what else I can have you try to figure out the exclusion of category in auto-refresh modes.. I will let you know when something comes to mind to troubleshoot it more.
