Widget Postions

I have a very old install of comic-press/comic easel. It’s up to date, but I’ve noticed after installing a few more WP with Easel installs that the new installs have the ability to put widgets over the comic, under the comic etc… where as I do not it just has the default WP/Jetpack areas to display a widget, and I’d love to be able to use OVER the comic, so it’s not shoving the whole page down the size of the banner to display it under or around the header/menubar.. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
