Normally when adding widgets to a sidebar they go one on top of the other. Is there a way to make them go side by side?

Yes. You can do it via CSS.

What would the CSS for that be, or does it depend?

it depends. as you didn’t give to a link to your site, it’s hard to be any more specific.

so which widgets are you talking about? How wide is your sidebar?

I’m using Visual Composer to place a wigdetised sidebar across the length of a page. The widget i’m using is Twitch Status to display multiple streamers. Here’s an example after placing two streamers on the sidebar.

    Oh… Visual Composer. Sorry, I don’t have a 10 foot pole.

But specifically, on your site, what widgets are you talking about? There’s a lot going on there.

The only thing I’m trying to get side by side is the twitch status widget(s) so that the streamers are side by side. I’m not sure if that answers your question or not.

what are the “twitch status widgets”?

    This plugin only- Twitch Staus

It lets you input channel names, then you can put those channels into a sidebar, giving the result linked above.
