Wildcard patterns not working

I am trying to exclude some files using the Exclude files from scan that match these wildcard patterns feature. However some of my wildcard patters aren’t working.

The following works
wp-content/uploads/pb_backupbuddy/*

But this doesn’t
wp-content/uploads/20*.png

Shouldn’t the second pattern exclude all .png files from folders such as 2018/12 and 2019/01? It doesn’t seem to exclude anything.
