RESOLVED:
OK… end of panic… having navigated off elsewhere in the admin interface then returned to the backup settings, they are now displaying correctly as a modal (I thought it looked a bit clunky before!!) and it’s accepting changes fine.

yes I’m aware of this issue. Sometimes the modal doesn’t load. You need to refresh the page.
I am investigating this
I change the number of db backups to one and it goes back to 14.
And when the settings open I have to press the back button in my browser.
Got the same problem: unable to modify (save) settings = modals not loading.
For some reasons, it seems that modals do not respond at first run only.
Here’s a workaround that worked for me.
– First, run a backup leaving settings unchanged, it will backup DB only.
– Now go to settings again, modal should popup properly.
– Change backup settings to DB + Files, and run it once.
All Modal windows should now load fine and you should be able to fully control your backup settings, including the Excludes parameters.
Apart from this little “bug”, the plugin is excellent and works better than any of its commercial equivalents.
Thanks for this Paul, you just got another 5 rating!
I have the same issue. Just installed the newest version of the BackUpWordPress plugin onto a single-site install of WP Version 3.8.1.
The Settings Modal does not appear. Instead a new tab opens with a plain text Settings form, which cannot be saved.
The above fix of saving one time, and refreshing page, did not help. Kindly assist.
