I have built a woocommerce store and added different values to the “standard” tax category depending on the country. Now, when I tested the operation in the shopping cart, I noticed that if I put Åland Island as the address, the error message “ERROR: Invalid country code: AX” appears in the shopping cart. And thus I can’t see any mailing options. However, I have set the VAT for all countries in the same way, but Åland gives this notification, even though I put the correct street address, postal code and city. Where is the fault?

    Hello finnemac,

Thank you for contacting WooCommerce support with the details of the issue you’re experiencing regarding tax configurations based on geographical locations, particularly with Åland Islands addresses.

I understand that an “ERROR: Invalid country code: AX” message appears when Åland Island is selected as the address in the shopping cart, preventing shipping options from being displayed. This is despite setting VAT consistently for all countries.

To help you further, I’d like to understand more about your setup. Could you please send me a copy of your site’s System Status Report? This will provide comprehensive information about your environment and may highlight any setup anomalies contributing to the issue.

Here’s how you can send it to me:
    1. Go to WooCommerce → Status in your WordPress dashboard.
    2. Click on the ‘Get system report’ button.
    3. Then click on ‘Copy for support’ to copy the entire system report.

Once you have done that, you can paste the text into a new Gist at https://gist.github.com. After saving the Gist, you will get a unique Gist link which you can share with us by pasting it here in your reply.

This information will be valuable in diagnosing the root cause of the invalid country code error.

I look forward to your response. 🙂

    Hi @finnemac,

WooCommerce, by default, uses the ISO 3166 standard as the address, and I can see that the AX is the correct country code for Åland Islands: https://www.iso.org/obp/ui/#iso:code:3166:AX

However, I added a 10% tax rate to my standard rates to test the issue using the country code AX. Once I selected Åland Islands, I noticed the tax rate worked properly.

Could you please check everything to see whether you have configured it correctly or not?

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

    Hi!

    Thank you for answer!

I deleted the current AX line, then added a new one (24%), but the situation did not improve. If I select AX under Billing, I get that error message. If I then click “Ship to a different address?” then the error message disappears, but if I also select AX as the delivery address again, the error message returns. I don’t know where to locate this fault? I think all other settings are correct. The only thing is, of course, that there is this error message in Woocommerce < Settings > Tax: Warning Icon: Inconsistent tax settings:! I also posted a question about it here on the same forum: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/woocommerce-tax-options-inconsistent-tax-settings/#post-17405963

Hello, is this a problem that no one knows how to fix? Where else could I get help with this, when this definitely needs to be fixed?

    Hey there, @finnemac!

We are happy to keep troubleshooting this with you.

As my colleague mentioned, we were not able to replicate this issue on our end.

Can you please run a conflict test to see if the issue persists?

To test, you’ll first want to change the theme on your site to Storefront, then check to see if the issue is still present. If that resolves the issue, you’ll want to get in touch with your theme’s developer and see if they have an update or fix for you.

If changing the theme doesn’t help, you’ll want to deactivate all plugins except for WooCommerce and take a look. If that fixes the problem, re-enable the other plugins one by one (gradually), checking after each, to see where the issue is coming from.

    — Be sure you have a good backup in place of your full site and database. You can ask your host for backup functionality or you can consider using a service like Jetpack. If something goes wrong, you will be able to restore it.

    — Also, you can consider using a plugin like Health Check & Troubleshooting. This is a plugin developed by the WordPress community and it is helpful to disable plugins without affecting your current site visitors.

    — It is important to consider as well a staging functionality in case you would not like to touch your production site (you can ask your host if they offer this service), or you can use WP Staging for quickly spinning up a new test site.

You can find more about this in this guide.

Please let us know about your findings.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Have a wonderful day!
