Hi @vchk,
Thanks for reaching out to us. Great questions too. Let’s take a look at your questions.
> What’s the difference between plugins and extensions in this case?
Nothing…they are the same thing. Often we call plugins that add to the features in WooCommerce “extensions” since they extend WooCommerce. But they are WordPress plugins. You can use the terms interchangeably.
> When I try to do this with extensions, it offers me to connect a wordpress.com account… Is it how it should be? Is it okay to use wordpress.com extensions on ww.wp.xz.cn standalone site?
You can absolutely use WooCommerce and extensions/plugins on a standalone WordPress site. The vast majority of our users are on self-hosted sites like that.
WooCommerce is a part of Automattic the company behind WordPress.com. Because of that we share logins and accounts with WordPress.com. There is a spot in WooCommerce (the extensions section) where you can log in with your WooCommerce.com account. That lets you receive updates for any extensions that you’ve gotten from WooCommerce.com. To update plugins from ww.wp.xz.cn you don’t to log in.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. We’d be happy to help out.
Cheers
