So, all the newer websites I have been creating get stuck in a WooCommerce wizard loop. You finish installing and setting up, and then when you click the WooCommerce home link, it shows up again! It’s so frustrating. I have read many topics on this, and nothing that has been provided has helped me at all.

But here is something interesting and I think this is what is creating the issue. I noticed that the url when I click woocommerce home link shows it ends with admin.php?page=wc-admin&path=%2Fsetup-wizard.

If I remove the &path=%2Fsetup-wizard from the end of the url then the home page is correct and does not go into a loop. The only problem is that when I leave and come back the issue is again at hand. So I am thinking that woocommerce plug has a bug and it needs to rid itself of the “&path=%2Fsetup-wizard” from the end of the url for the woocommerce home link.

Honestly I would rather see a link call “Wizard”, instead of trying to put it on the woocommer home link page. That way if you want to use the wizard you can and if you don’t you can still use the home link as intended. I think this be the best fix for the plugin.

Hope this reach someone who works on woocommerce plugins and they take this idea to heart. You save us all from going crazy running around trying to find a fix. and most of the fixes online don’t work for everyone.

  • Hi @krickman,

I know this can definitely feel frustrating and even a bit overwhelming. But rest assured—we’re here to help.

I get the issue you described, but just to make sure we’re fully on the same page, could you share a full screenshot of the “Home” button you’re clicking that triggers the loop? Please highlight or circle the exact button. Also, once you click it, share a screenshot of what appears next.

Keep in mind that even after completing the setup wizard, WooCommerce may still show additional suggested tasks or settings—that doesn’t necessarily mean the wizard is still active. I’ll be waiting for your update.

Exciting news – I think I found the issue – it’s McAfee Web Advisor and Malwarebytes Browser Guard browser plugins. When these browser plugins are active, you get redirected to the WooCommerce setup wizard when you click “WooCommerce” or “Home” links. I have circled the menu links in the image below.

Here are my results when I tested different scenarios.

    1. McAfee browser plugin active in Chrome = redirects to Wizard.
    2. McAfee browser plugin active in Edge = redirects to Wizard.
    3. Malwarebytes browser plugin active in Chrome = redirects to Wizard.
    4. Malwarebytes browser plugin active in Edge = redirects to Wizard.
    5. In both browser plugins I listed the wordpress website as a safe site and tried the test again – both Chrome and Edge redirected to Wizard.
    6. When I turned off McAfee browser plugin in Chrome and in Edge – then Woocommerce “home” link would work and not redirect.
    7. When I turned off Malwarebytes browser plugin in Chrome and in Edge – then Woocommerce “home” link would work and not redirect.

So I guess I would hope that Woocommerce would try to figure out why these safety browser plugins conflict with the Woocommerce Home Link in the WordPress menu. I don’t trust not having a malwarebytes or mcafee browser plugin these days. To help keep my system protected, I feel this important to have them active.

Maybe a fix could be the wizard only comes up if you click a NEW link under Woocommerce menu section called “Wizard” and not have it on the Woocommerce Home link pages. I hope that makes sense.

Here is pictures of the links that trigger to the set-up wizard instead of going to the Woocommerce page.

    Thank you @mosesmedh

    I appreciate you helping.

    Hi @krickman,

Thank you for getting back to us, and I’m glad you were able to identify the root cause of the issue. We’ll keep your observation in mind and continue monitoring. However, just to clarify, WooCommerce is designed to work universally, and it’s a known issue that certain browser extensions, particularly those related to security, caching, and privacy, can sometimes interfere with website functions. Unfortunately, this is something we can’t investigate or resolve on our end, as there are thousands of such plugins available.

The issue typically arises from how these extensions are built and how they interact with normal site operations.

In the meantime, since you’re using WooCommerce, would you mind taking a moment to leave a review for the plugin? We take feedback very seriously and it helps us improve the plugin: Leave a Review on WordPress.

I would be glad to leave a review – thank you for your time.

Knowing that so many people are experiencing the same issue as I – I still really feel that if you separate out the wizard from the home link and WooCommerce link and provide a wizard link in the menu under Home, you would eliminate a HUGE amount of frustration for all of us. Not to mention the amount of time each of us has had to put in trying to figure out what was wrong.

Nothing more frustrating when you try to look at the Woocommerce home page in your WordPress and you get a wizard saying you need to do it again. Obviously with the millions of users who want browsers protection are going to find this annoying. And it was not just one browser and not just one security plugin but in total four different companies software.

If Woocommerce is not willing to fix what is probably in their own software, then by doing the above suggestion would be a good temporary fix for all who use the product.

    Hello krickman,

    I appreciate your feedback.

I understand your suggestion is to separate the wizard from the Home and WooCommerce links and provide a dedicated wizard link in the menu, which you believe would reduce user frustration.

I recommend posting this on our feature request portal so it can be recorded, voted on by others, and considered for future improvements.

    Best regards.
