I think I read every single page and I find it hard to think I am the only one that would benefit from this feature. It would be nice when we take a payment through our website as a authorization that we have the ability to add up to 15% more of a payment for various reasons, such as: customer wants to add more items to the order they already put through. I also use PP as a processor and they have that feature and it is a lifesaver as far as not having to bother a customer to pay a small additional amount for what ever reason. I have this come up on probably at least 10% of the orders that come through.

  • On the Settings / Payments tab, set the payment action to Authorize.

Majeed Raza you didn’t read the actual post or you didn’t understand it. I did say authorization, my question was it would be nice if we could collect more then the authorized amount. Like when a restaurant can add on a tip amount. In my case customers want to do an add on once they have already placed the order.

As you say, authorization allows the seller to capture up to 115% of or $75 USD more than the original authorized amount, whichever is less. However, the Second Payment Services Directive tells us that “the final transaction amount can’t be higher than the authenticated amount otherwised the transaction will be declined.” This applies to sales to countries in the EEA. It would seem a big ask for WooCommerce to be able to tell if the directive applies based on the website country and the buyer’s country, and allow the 15% or not accordingly, but the feature could be suggested here:
    https://woocommerce.com/feature-requests/woocommerce/
There’s a long list of suggestions.

At one time the 15% used to be allowed but it looks to me that this feature has been disabled in WooCommerce to ensure any sale is on the right side of the directive.

Thank you, I read everywhere and could not find anything about 15% over the initial authorization. I do not do much business in the EEA, just a few times a year, so it would be easy enough to deal with those countries.
