Hi I checked my payment methods and was shocked to see I had to install woopayments again and then re-install? I did a chatgpt check and suggested this was common fault with PHP 8.3? or when using paypal standard during updates?

Is there no email notification to admin to say it has been deactivated as could loose lots of sales?

    Many Thanks Jason

  • Hi @jasonmac_75,

Thanks for bringing this up, I can see how unexpected it must have been to find WooPayments disabled, especially when payments are critical to keeping sales running smoothly. I am glad you checked in so we can clarify what is happening and point you in the right direction.

WooPayments does not automatically deactivate on its own, however it can be disabled during updates if there is a PHP compatibility issue, a plugin conflict, or if the site environment temporarily fails a required check. PHP 8.3 is still relatively new and some plugins or extensions may not yet be fully compatible, which can trigger this kind of behavior during updates. Using other payment methods such as PayPal alongside WooPayments is supported, but conflicts can still occur depending on the setup.

At the moment, there is no built in email notification sent to administrators when a plugin like WooPayments is deactivated. To reduce the risk of this happening again, it is a good idea to make sure your site is running a supported PHP version and that all plugins and themes are fully up to date and compatible.

This guide walks through WooPayments requirements and troubleshooting steps, including PHP compatibility, https://woocommerce.com/document/woopayments/.

If you notice this happening again, sharing your WooCommerce system status report will help us take a closer look. You can copy it from WooCommerce, Status, System Status, and share it using https://pastebin.com or https://gist.github.com.

Let us know how things look after reinstalling and whether everything is now working as expected, and we will be happy to continue from there.
