Word/characters count?

It looks like there is a custom implementation of a word counter in the main wordpress editor – i.e. not the same as the wordcount TinyMCE plugin. It may be possible to add the plugin to the editor, but it doesn’t look like it is available in Core, so adding it would take a considerable amount of effort! I’ll treat your comment as a feature request and if I can find a sustainable solution, I’ll let you know.
