• I installed Wordfence and upgraded to wordpress 4.1.1
I then noticed after 2 days that my site wasnt loading. It gives blank pages or returns a 501 error or 500 error.
So I uninstalled all plugins and reinstalled and noticed that the problem was Wordfence.
    Why is this happening?
Another bit of info that might help is the fact that when i am logged in as an admin, the site displays just fine. But when logged off, it gives the error
    Thanks

  • So if you log in as an author the site won’t come up? Are you using any maintenance plugins? Also can you check your system info on the options page? Grab a screenshot and post here.

    Hello
Thanks for the response. Let me be clearer
I got notified by a fan who tried to read an article that the site was returning blank pages
But the problem was that from the browser which I was using, I (while logged into my wordpress site as an admin) wasn’t seeing my site as being down. All pages and articles were displaying fine.
So I decided to check the frontend of the site out from a device where I wasn’t logged in and a different browser and I got 500 and 501 errors on the different devices which I used.
So I disabled all plugins I had on the site and checked if the site would work and noticed that the site worked fine from the front end
So I decided to track which of the plugins was giving the error and I noticed that it was Wordfence. I have deleted it from my site now so I cannot give you any screenshots

Its going to be really difficult to troubleshoot then. Could be the system is running out of memory for php (check php.ini we recommend 128M set there). May have been a conflict with another plugin. Could have been a misconfigured htaccess file after you enabled caching (if you did). If you’d like to turn it on again, or at least give a url to your site, we may be able to help more.

I installed Word Fence not long ago. I was going to purchase it today but this is what has happened. When you visit my website either as just a visitor or as an admin trying to log in this is the page that comes up. Yes I have put in for a unblock email but it is not coming through either. Word Fence has rendered my site useless to everyone. Admin and viewer. I get the same page when I try to log in. I can’t even get to the admin sign in page. What can I do as I am no longer sure I even want to use this plugin any more after this.

The Page we get sent to –
Your access to this site has been limited

Your access to this service has been temporarily limited. Please try again in a few minutes. (HTTP response code 503)

Reason: Exceeded the maximum global requests per minute for crawlers or humans.

Important note for site admins: If you are the administrator of this website note that your access has been limited because you broke one of the Wordfence firewall rules. The reason you access was limited is: “Exceeded the maximum global requests per minute for crawlers or humans.”.

If this is a false positive, meaning that your access to your own site has been limited incorrectly, then you will need to regain access to your site, go to the Wordfence “options” page, go to the section for Firewall Rules and disable the rule that caused you to be blocked. For example, if you were blocked because it was detected that you are a fake Google crawler, then disable the rule that blocks fake google crawlers. Or if you were blocked because you were accessing your site too quickly, then increase the number of accesses allowed per minute.

If you’re still having trouble, then simply disable the Wordfence firewall and you will still benefit from the other security features that Wordfence provides.

If you are a site administrator and have been accidentally locked out, please enter your email in the box below and click “Send”. If the email address you enter belongs to a known site administrator or someone set to receive Wordfence alerts, we will send you an email to help you regain access. Please read this FAQ entry if this does not work.

Thanks fr the help. The problem wasn’t Wordfence, it was my PHP memory limit as you said. So I have increased the memory from 128 to 256mb and everything is fine now.
    Thanks!
