• I have several sites and I updated them all to 3.4.2. TinyMCE died in ALL of them.
    The editor toolbar disappeared
The text is white on white
You can not change from Visual to HTML

If I go to my profile and tick “Disable the visual editor when writing”, HTML mode seems to be ok.

    I have:
    -Reset the plugin folder
-Replaced the includes and admin folders
    -Deactivated every single plugin
-Reinstalled WordPress from the update option

In firebug I get the error:
    tinyMCE is not defined post-new.php

Been pulling my hair out for 3 days now. I finally resorted to asking for help! heh. So, someone, anyone, help!!!

I actually have 3.4.2 on 2 different servers. This is widespread across 15+ sites. I’ve tried multiple PCs, ISPs & browsers. I’m at a loss.

    Thanks.

  • Have you tried:

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    Yes.

What’s the url of the problem site?

edit: Can I PM you on here?

I’m sorry but this forum doesn’t offer any PM facilities.

All sites have just a couple plugins and are running themes:
    Magazine Basic theme
    Confidence
    Buddyboss (on buddypress)
    Light Green
    Striking
    twenty eleven

The most basic is one that I am hosting louissauer.com

Is that the site with the problem?

Yes, that is one of them. There are about 14 more, all various themes.

On that site, have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

Yes. Just tried it all a second time.

I am going to set up a new copy of WP later on a new domain on the same server and see what happens in a bit.
