WordPress 4.1 and Simple LDAP 1.5.5 – broken

Upgraded from Version 1.4.0.5.1 to 1.5.5, could not log in with LDAP afterwards. PHP built correctly, and confirmed with PHPINFO(). Was able to roll-back to 1.4.x and login is functional again. Would like to use the ‘latest and greatest’ but appears to be broken. Could not find any log/debug info. ran a tcpdump on the wordpress host and it appears that it’s not making a call out to the AD servers.
Would be glad to provide feedback assuming this is still actively supported.
