WordPress 4.x and PhpBB 3.1.x User Database Bridge

The main reason I brought my website to wordpress was to have a great front end on the main page, to have a blog section and to incorporate my existing phpbb forums. Not only is there no plugin that now works other than one you have to pay each year for.
Is anyone working on a WP plugin that will bridge the databases of a wordpress and phpbb site? All of the past plugins have all fallen off the map!
