WordPress 5.5 Update

    When I ran the WordPress core update yesterday, everything ran fine and then at the end it said our database needed updating so I OK’d that as well. When finished (or while running the Db update), we were kicked out of the site (couldn’t access the admin dashboard). The site was functional, but looked way off…like the theme was broken or something. To troubleshoot the cause, our Db administrator removed all the plugin folders which fixed the site and we finally nailed down the source which was Redis. I know this is my fault because I now know I should’ve cleared the cache beforehand and probably deactivated it first(?), but I guess I’m wondering if you have any ideas on how I can fix this now? When he added the folder back, it subsequently broke the site again. We assume the plugin was corrupted somehow — is that possible? I noticed that the object-cache.php file is still located in the /wp-content/ folder, could that have something to do with it? We have a large site, so this plugin helps tremendously!

    Hey! After re-enabling the plugin and flushing the entire database, does the site work again?

    When we tried re-enabling it (or even when he just restored the plugin folder via FTP), it automatically kicked us out of the admin area again so I couldn’t clear the cache. Do you think I could just re-install the plugin from the WP directory and that might fix it instead of him adding the old folder back to the plugin folder using FTP?

    No, you probably have to flush your Redis database by hand:

    redis-cli flushall, or you might be able to use wp cache flush after enabling the plugin.

    Are you seeing any errors in your logs?

    Does 2.0.8 work?

    Is this resolved? I’ve got 2.0.10 but it seems to resolve nothing.

    I’ve now got a broken theme and cannot login.

    I fluched cache
    I even created a new redis db

    When I disable the plugin, all works as normal

    Server error log is empty by the way.

    Hi @tvdsluijs, are you using any other caching plugins, if so can you try disabling them all. From someone who had issues:

    Our recommendation to update Redis -> 2.0.10 from 2.0.8 if you didn’t WordPress to 5.5:
    1. Disable Object Cache (Tools-> Redis)
    2. Update to 5.5
    3. whatever cache plugin you are using – use:
    clear cache
    Pre-load
    regenerate CSS
    4. Update Redis plugin
    5. FLASHALL

    We also added one more step, clear again the caching plugin, and pre-load it back to our procedure – but it should work even without it.

    If you already update both and having problems:
    1. Disable both f the plugin
    2. manual log to Redis-cli: FLASHALL
    3. enable the cache plugin you are using – use:
    clear cache
    Pre-load
    regenerate CSS
    Re-enable Redis plugin after.
