Does the process take a long time?
Which PHP version are you currently using?
Do you have enough free space in your hosting?
Before you run the update, are there any abnormalities under Tools > Site Health?
Thanks for the reply

2-3 minutes could already indicate a timeout. That is also unusually long. For me it usually goes in max. 20 seconds, depends of course on the hosting.
My advice would be: look at the error log what is called there to the error. If it was a timeout, then you have to increase its limits on the hosting.
threadi,
I have loaded a plugin to show error messages, where will l find info about time outs?
The server/apache information just says “There has been an error on this website”

A plugin cannot help with this. Such a critical error is recorded only in the log file on the server. Therefore, it is best to contact the support of your hosting.
Yep hosting sorted the issue out,
Thanks for your help
