WordPress API Key? Hostname-Username (FTP) via WP web interface issues

    When I went to UPGRADE and install several plugins today, for the first time in about a year (I’ve been busy and apparently a LOT has changed here in that time) I receive a prompt and form on a page for for “Hostname, Username and password” with a choice between FTP and FTPS for Connection Type (I chose FTP, between the two).
    Should this be the password and username I use to manage my WORDPRESS site in general? Or the hostname, username and password I use when using my FTP application??
    I have no trouble logging in to WordPress account, am able to tweak the admin in other areas, but cannot upgrade or install plugins because of the afore-mentioned ‘hostname/username/password’ issue that comes up. How do I get this info, and from WHERE? I’ve tried using info EXACTLY as it is used IN my FTP application, but THAT’s obviously not IT…
