• hi guys, this is my first post, my name is Lukas

I’m trying to build a small portal using wordpress. I’ve got a bit complicated sitemap and I was wondering can you suggest the proper way of building the structure to make it working? The problem/question is
how to build this navigation, which node should be a page and which should be a category, maybe some of them should have representation in in pages and in categories too?

This is example of sitemap (just few nodes to keep it simple):

    • Home
    • News
    • Cat N1
    • Cat N1.1
    • Cat N1.1.1
    • Cat N1.1.2
    • Cat N1.1.3
    • Cat N1.2
    • Cat N1.3
  • Cat N2
  • Cat N3
  • Job board
  • Videos
    • Cat V1
    • Cat V2
    • Cat V3
    • Blog

How to solve this problem, when you will have a 2 level navigation on the top of the website.. Idealy 1st level should be represented by pages, have proper templates to display information on it, right?
(I could put actualy any info on there even if it’s page?)

Did you have similar problem before? Maybe you’ve done similar website so you could advise me here? I just don’t want to make mistake with planning at the begin so YOUR opinion is very important to me!

    Thanks
    Lukas

    anyone????

Frankly, I don’t understand why you’re asking about pages “versus” categories. They’re different ways of presenting content; if you have content by categories then yes, category links make sense. Else, no they don’t.

If you’re looking for something that helps building navigation menus, I’d suggest looking at the Multi-level Navigation Plugin which supports links (menu items) pointing to categories and such.

Having said that, you’re asking a question about organization of content of your site, in a forum dedicated to “plugins and hacks”, and yet you wonder why one day later nobody knows what to do with it… Don’t be too much surprised when you don’t get many nibbles asking for used cars in a bakery, either.
