I spent a couple of weeks theming out my blog to look like part of the rest of my website. I read all the documentation and watched several YT vids to get comfortable with how to use the new WP Blocks Editor. I installed the WP Block Editor Plug-In and went on my way. Well after I got the theme to look the way I wanted it to I was going to EXPORT the theme this evening. As I hit the EXPORT button it proceeded to tell me to “Save user changes (including Templates and Global Styles) to the theme.” So I did. Next thing it said, it was going to reload the browser. Lo and behold everything vanished from my eyes. The custom header I created, empty (deleted). A reusable template piece, empty (deleted). The layouts for a single-page post and a couple of others, completely gone. I am absolutely crushed. I spent so much time for ALL my work to disappear. And yet there is NO revision history to roll back on. I have a feeling there is no way to recover this. Has anyone else run into this?

I’m just wondering which export button you mean? And which block theme did you use?

I created a NEW blank theme. So it’s not a child theme of some other theme. I went to the wrench icon where you goto export your theme. I hit the 2nd item that says EXPORT when a mssg popped asking me to “Save user changes (including Templates and Global Styles) to the theme.” which is the 1st option. Then a modal came up saying it was going to reload the page and everything I worked on disappeared before my eyes. WP wrote files in the template and pattern theme folders. The content in some of the pages I worked on with the theme editor were now blank in the theme editor and in the theme files it wrote.

Unfortunately, I still don’t know which export button you mean. Can you please provide a screenshot of it? You are welcome to upload it here: https://imgur.com

I am asking because I am only familiar with such export functions using plugins, e.g. https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/design-import-export/ – if you use one of these, you would need to contact their support for clarification.

This is the plug-in (“Create Block Theme” by WP) that I mention in the original post I am using to build the theme: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/create-block-theme/

From the WP dashboard, under APPEARANCE > EDITOR you enter the editing view. Then this is the menu within the editor to export out the theme – https://imgur.com/a/pKvOyPH

Ok, the export function is provided by the plugin you mentioned. You would need to contact their support to clarify any questions in this regard: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/plugin/create-block-theme/
