I’m confused and would like to ask a newbie question. I have a WordPress.com account for a blog. I am building WordPress (.org) on a server with my domain name.

When I read the documentation from Jetpack, it mentions that the plugin will need a wordpress.com account.

I want to keep these two separate. If I give the WordPress.com account, will my blog be transferred to my server? Or Do I create another .com account for Jetpack plugin?

Thank you in advance for the help with this.

You can use the same WordPress.com account for both sites (the one on WordPress.com and the .org-powered one on your own server).

On WordPress.com, you can have multiple sites under the same account (e.g. you login with user name “awesomeperson” while having awesomeperson.wordpress.com, mygroovysite.wordpress.com, plus example.com, anotherexample.com that are both Jetpack sites).

Your Jetpack sites will still be completely on your server, but since you use the resources of WordPress.com (Publicize, among others), we require you login so we can keep everything straight behind the scenes at WordPress.com.

Your existing WordPress.com site and your Jetpack site will remain completely separate.

    Does that help?

    Cheers!

Yes indeed, it does help. Thank you so much for that!

I’m going to download it now, without the “Oh, what if I screw up”! LOL Thank you!!
