WordPress Core File is empty

    Hello.

    I am having a problem with one of my pages.

    A core wordpress file (template.php in wp-includes folder) is empty and throwing error 500 in frontend. I try to reinstall this file and after some seconds this file gets empty again.

    I setup a new wordpress in another account, with the same database data as the site that I’m getting errors. In this new site, I started to install all the plugins and theme that I have in the old site so they have the same content. In the new site the problem it’s not happening.

    What I find very strange is that when I tranfer the files from the new site to the old one the problem keeps happening.

    What dou you think that could be the problem?

    The content of PHP files shouldn’t change on their own. I’m afraid your site is likely infected with malicious code, i.e. your site has been hacked. Probably partly broken malicious code since fully functional malicious code would normally be much more difficult to notice. A 500 error is not very subtle. All the same, broken or not, it’s a problem and the infection needs to be removed. Malicious code can be very difficult to locate and remove. Such code is typically very good at remaining hidden.
