    Hi,
To try Wordfence, I installed a new version of WP 4.0
    Theme: Twenty Fourteen
    Plugins: Akismet

So I installed Wordfence, latest version 5.2.3

I started “Start Scan to Wordfence” and I received an alert and an email:
    WordPress core file modified: wp-includes/version.php

    I do not understand.
Please i would like to know if it works or this is a false positive.
    Thanks

  • Hi

Let’s see if we can sort this out for you.

Can I get a screenshot of the differences?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    I found the “problem”.
If I install WordPress 4 in my language, the version.php file contains the following line added, in my case is the code for Italy:

    $wp_local_package = 'it_IT';

If I delete the line language code, Wordfence not detect differences with the original file.
So this warning appears only if you install WordPress in their own language.

That’s basically what I was thinking but I always like to look to be sure. It’s been on the developer’s list to look into, but I don’t know what priority it has. They spend a fair amount of time addressing the latest security concerns and their plate is usually full. I’ll add this to my suggestions I make on our weekly call.

While I won’t advocate deleting any lines in a WP core file, I think you can ignore the issue to clear the warnings.

    Thanks!
