• Here’s a really odd problem I have with one of my wordpress sites.

I have several wordpress sites (using different databases) on one server and mysql instance. However, one particular site crashes after 7 clicks on different pages in the site.

The error received in the site page is “Error establishing a database connection” but I can connect to the database through the shell and also via Navicat. No tables need repairing. All other sites continue to work fine so the mysql instance is fine. There is nothing in the mysqld.log file when this happens.

To recover the site I simply restart mysql and the site comes back up again until I navigate to the seventh page again. I can also get the error to occur by uploading a new file to the site, even if the file overwrites an identical version of the same file…..weird!!!!

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this please? I have trawled the web trying to find similar occurrences.

    Thank you

  • Presume you have tried the disabling all plugins and reverting to a basic theme to eliminate wordpress and plugins, in which case after a virus scan (http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/scanner/), I’d start talking to your host provider.

    Thanks for your reply Robin,

I went back to the basic Twenty Eleven theme and deactivated all plugins. The result was better but eventually the same error occurred although it took me to navigate through about 15 pages before it occurred.
