WordPress database error MySQL server has gone away

    Does anyone know what is causing this error resulting in a 500 server error. I’ve looked at all the old “fixes” but none of them really seem relevant.

    Check on your website’s control panel (NOT WordPress, the one for your site as a whole) and see if the DB is still there. You may need to grab your host.

    After upgrading wordpress ( 3.2 ) the error brings up a page that states:
    Error establishing a database connection
    I am at a loss to truly troubleshoot this since the only real evidence is the error.log which shows a sizable list of calls to the database that went unanswered.
