• I bought a domain and installed WordPress on it years ago. Since then I decided to make a free wordpress website at http://www.secondaryentertainment.wordpress.com
I’m migrating it to my other one.

I want my website to work with the twenty fourteen theme but it’s giving me constant formatting errors, because it’s old even with updates.

    1. The slider on the top of the page doesn’t work as it does in the theme
    2. The post on the main page still has a white bar where the header was
    3. The post page images don’t stretch across the page.
Separately, how am I supposed to get plugins that I can use to look like the one I already made? The alternatives I have just don’t look as smooth.

  • Honestly, I can’t tell which is the original and which is the copy. Are you moving to wordpress.com or from wordpress.com?
Obviously, the themes and plugins there and here are a little different. You’ll have to work within whichever environment you choose to be in.

I’m moving from the wordpress.com to the .com website. This is me recreating the original using what I have available.
I have the same setup on both websites except my .com one won’t give me half of what the .wordpress.com has available – stock widgets (unnamed) and improper formatting.

    Hi!

    For this:

The slider on the top of the page doesn’t work as it does in the theme

It’s a setting in the Customize section. It’s the featured content setting in particular. I’m guessing the current layout setting is Grid.

So to clarify a little bit, you’re trying to move from secondaryentertainment to the davids one, correct? Or is it the other way around?

    @jcastaneda.
I set it to slider, but it took up over twice the same amount of space. instead of 3 objects and a slider to move to the next 3, it was one giant article twice as high and stretching across the page.

Yes to the second question. I’m remaking it on the .com.

    Gotcha.

Was that altered somehow? From what I can remember the slider is not a typical behavior when using the grid option. I know the amount of posts shown can be changed though. It’s been quite some time since I last fiddled with that theme though so I could be wrong.

As for the white bar, can you clarify a little more on this?
