• I apologize beforehand for my lack of knowledge on the subject, but I’m starting to lose my mind and I know it’s probably a simple fix for what I’m trying to do.

I’m hosting wordpress through godaddy and I, uh, “inadvertently” installed wordpress in both the top folder (html?) and a separate /wordpress directory. Not knowing any better, I was simply logging in by going to “www.mywebsite.com/wordpress/wp-login.php” and editing the site to be effected at simply “www.mywebsite.com”.

Well, I noticed that when I tried applying certain widgets, (notably ‘most popular post’ widgets) they weren’t showing up what-so-ever on http://www.mywebsite.com. That’s when it sort of clicked and I added the /wordpress at the end and saw that the effects were taking place there.

I know this probably sounds like the insane ramblings of a madman, but I’m trying! How would I go about editing the /wordpress/wp-login.php and have the effect come up at the base directory? Someone help me set myself straight.

    Much appreciated.

  • uhm, why don’t you just login to http://www.mywebsites.com/wp-login.php ? The changes made there will affect your “main” wordpress install. You also can drop the second install if you don’t need it.
On my site http://www.chlog.net i have a wordpress for beginners guide published today you probably want to check out too.

I would, but when I log in that way, it redirects me(?) to /wordpress/wp-login.php… Why, I’m not sure.

hm yeah possible. Have you done a lot of stuff already on your blog? if no i would just suggest to delete both installs and setup a new one. If not possible, i think we can somehow change this behaviour by accessing the database directly.

Ahh, I discovered the issue. It was due to something I used as a fix earlier. I appreciate your willingness to help, danielascher and I will check out your blog. Thanks!
