I’ve been going nuts on WordPress, using it not only as a blogging tool, but as a CMS for both static and dynamic sites. The abilities of WordPress make it a natural for sites of all kinds, especially sites that feature regularly updated “news” topics. Here are some of my sites:

This is my regular blog site, the first one I converted to WordPress.

This site is the information site for a nightly summer concert series. The database is pre-loaded with information about each performance, and the post date is modifed to very early in the morning of the performance. That way, the performance for the current date is automatically displayed. Very cool.

http://www.highergroundproductions.org
My production company site. The Higher Ground Productions site makes extensive use of pages for the “static” information. Entries for company news and project information display new items on the front pages.

These are just a few ways I can think of to use WordPress. It’s a natural for local and regional bands, and I’m also working with a hobby shop owner, designing his site with a combination of WordPress and oCommerce.

but IMHO especially that site needs some images/photos. kr

Next years version of the site will have more images. I put that one together very quickly — I had about three days to put the site up and get the database populated. When the festival comes around again next year, all the ground work will have been done, so I can concentrate on more “goodies.”

Nice work… I am also using WordPress for one main project of mine, while slapping up several more WP’s for various specific interests…. My new project is a password protected blog for my Notes in class at school 🙂

I’m glad I ran across this post! I’ve just started a blog site using WP (which I am falling in love with), I just registered a new domain (KorgWorship.com) today, and I was seriously thinking about using WP as a CMS. Now I see it can be done. 🙂

I’m using it as a CMS, too, and agree all the functionality is potentially there, you just have to get all the plugins, redo tags, tweak themes a bit…no small amount of work, but when you are done it is amazing.

I am working on a project where I have chosen WordPress as the CMS tool.

Does anyone know how I can set the homepage of WP to be a PAGE and not the blog?

wp_list_pages (and list_cats) are otherwise good for creating navigation, but there’s one thing I’m missing. See binary bonsai, for example: http://binarybonsai.com/wordpress/k2/bugs/ . The pages are nicely folded out, but there’s no indication in the (X)HTML that you’re in wordpress/k2/… The functions only add the selected class to the page you’re in 😐

Nice work. On gerenm.net, I would seriously reconsider using images for your post titles, for the sake of usability/accessibility and having the content of your post titles read by search engines. You might be able to do image replacement with them, if you can give the headers a specific ID, but I’m not sure how to do that.
