We are planning to have SUBDIRECTORIES for WP Multisite. This is mainly for SEO purposes to keep link juice internal and not migrated to other sites.

    • https://example.com/ is platform we cannot touch (3rd party product)
    • https://wpadmin.example.com/ is our WP admin domain
    • https://example.com/site1 is our Site #1
    • https://example.com/site2 is our Site #2

You previously mentioned that there are issues with caching. You said “the system will have no way to know if a path is for one site or another“.

    Can you please clarify:

    1. Is this still an issue?
    2. Why would the Site #1 or Site #2 not know the path? From my understanding WP does not the path.

Yes. You need to install the plugin separately on each sub site then remove all the page rules added by it except for the apex one i.e. https://example.com/* as it will cover the rest of the sub path sites.
