WordPress noob needs help with website

    Hello there, đź‘‹

    I spent all day trying to make a website. I installed WordPress on Debian 11 using the Debian instructions. It is a local, well virtual machine, locally hosted from home. I signed up for a domain from Epik. I need your help, as soon as I changed my Site and WordPress URLs from “localhost” to Truthblast.Xyz. I still can edit the site via localhost/Wp-admin but cannot reach the website externally on [ redundant link removed ]. I attempted for hours to read the forums and see what I am doing wrong but many of the answers I see are around changing working URLs. I am sort of stuck. I did see somebody mention something about DNS, I am not sure what I need to do there, Do I need to do any port forwarding on my router? Thank you for your time. I am fairly technical but I’ve never been good at code. As you can see I can’t get rid of Epik’s landing page, as far as I know it should disappear as soon as things start working right.     PS I want the site local, I didn’t want VPS although I have used someone else’s VPS in the past and I really appreciate the management and ease of use.

    Yes, you need to set up forwarding on your router for incoming requests to your home server. You can read how to do this in the manual of your router.

    Overall, however, the topic has little to do with WordPress as software. I would recommend you to contact a network forum and ask for help there. But I would rather advise you to use a normal hosting with some service provider – because what you are building here is basically not necessary for WordPress, much too complex and for you possibly also more cost- and effort-intensive than if you simply use a hosting package to work yourself into WordPress (no VPS, just a hosting, completely sufficient).     Hello thank you so much for the reply. I found the nugget of truth that helped me was forwarding the local IP of the Debian Server (first changing it within my routers IP range. Instead of 10.0.2.15 I made it 192.168.1.156 for example. And then in virtual box in the network settings I had to “attach to bridged adapter” with my wifi adapter. Not to be mistaken with a windows bridge that never works. I had to go to my domain registrar and change A to my public IP address. And finally port forward the internal IP on my virtual machine through my router port 80. I hope someone sees this and it helps them. Now if only someone could tell me how to update Debian WordPress past 5.7.5 without entering a beta channel…

    Do not use the ready-made packages included in distributions. These are, as you can see, extremely old. Just download WordPress here and install it yourself: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/download/
