  • we noticed that WordPress website requires 512MB RAM

The official WordPress requirements page doesn’t mention any specific amount of RAM.

Every site is different: different themes, different sets of plugins, different load (traffic), and even different hardware and server software configuration running the site.

Will this 512MB RAM is needed even if the website is in idle state (like if the website is not accessed by anyone)

See the above as far as the 512MB value is concerned.

As to the general question of whether a WordPress site can use X megabytes (choose your value) RAM if the site is idle, absolutely: a badly written theme or plugin can bring eat up all CPU cycles and RAM… even when there’s no external traffic hitting the site.

So, once again, it all depends!

    Ok. Thanks for your reply.

What is the minimum RAM requirement for WordPress if we use its default theme. Could you please suggest. We searched and not able to find this in official websites.

If we use proper theme and plugins WordPress will not consume RAM if the website is in idle state. Could you please confirm.

What problem are you trying to solve?

I’m quite sure starting from there will be more useful.

Actually we have 10 WordPress and 2 Moodle websites in accuweb hosting. (Linux VPS)

We are getting alerts like the following: RE: [xxxxx.xxxx.com] Out of memory: The process “mysqld” was terminated because the system is low on memory.

    We have 4GB RAM

I am trying to figure out
Whether we need buy 2GB RAM additionally
Or can we manage with 4GB RAM itself

    Thanks
