WordPress requiring FTP for Theme update?

New user. I’m using LAMP on my localhost. I have several themes downloaded to play with. Two of them are showing available updates.

When I attempt to update them I get an FTP error. I haven’t used FTP ever for anything ever. Up until now, I have used http. And, obviously I am using it now, because I just clicked from my dashboard to this forum.

What did I do to get the FTP error fixed ? Can anyone tell me how, or point me to the correct tutorial, so I can correct it?

I realize that I will need to use FTP to get my ‘site hosted, but that is down the road.
