I deleted the current version of the plugin 2.1.1 and reinstalled the previous version, 2.1. The plugin is generating sitemaps again, so there is something buggy about 2.1.1 and generating sitemaps.

I had the same issue, posted it but had no answer. I’ll try to install the 2.1 version. Trying to find a download link without success. Were did you find it?

First deactivate WordPress SEO and then remove it from your plugins.

Then go here: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/wordpress-seo/developers/ and look for 2.1(svn). When you click on the link it will start a download the 2.1 version. Download this version of your plugin and then upload it to your plugins and activate it.

You can generate an XML sitemap from there.

I tried this and it didn’t work. I am using the Fount theme and its a single page. What happens when I click the xml sitemap button is that it just pulls up my site with the xml end tag essentially reading as an HTML page and not an xml document.

You didn’t hear anything because Youst doesn’t provide support for their free versions. Only the premium and those are in one on one messaging and not in a public venue. Its unfortinately especially for issues like these.

@davidtleblanc Thanks! Did here but the same problem persists…

@werdnayad didn’t know that…guess I’ll have to hire someone who know code

I found a fix. I went ahead and kept Youst installed and then also installed Google XML Sitemap. The sitemap worked great and Youst still seems to be working normally (even though there are a lot of warnings). It accomplished what I needed.

Installing the Google XML Sitemaps was my next solution. Just make sure Yoast’s site map generator is unchecked. I used to use it, but switched to WordPress SEO for the sake of simplification.

I don’t know why my solution worked for me and no one else. The sites I used this plugin on are continuing to generate XML sitemaps after the fix.

This started when I was making some changes and wanted those changes reflected in the sitemap-index, but the latest version seemed not to generate new sitemaps, just 404 pages. I went back to latest version that I knew worked, installed that one and got the sitemaps to generate.

Reinstalled the last version and the maps are still there. I am going to leave it alone for a while. Time and tweaking by Yoast will fix it eventually. If not, there is always a plan B.

    PROBLEM SOLVED

    1. Deactivated all my plugins other than SEO YOAST: nothing happened, the extra line added on top of my sitemap xml wasn’t from any plugin.

    2. Anyway, checked all plugin php and functions.php from my theme for space befor <?php or after ?>: it was all ok

    3. Tried Google XML Sitemap: didn’t work also

    4. FINALLY! Installed Fix Rss Feed Plugin : worked like a charm 😉

The problem probably occurred due to updating wordpress.

    Anyway, thank you guys! <3
