Hello! My WordPress Sitekit is presenting the following error under “Speed”

Error: Lighthouse returned error: FAILED_DOCUMENT_REQUEST. Lighthouse was unable to reliably load the page you requested. Make sure you are testing the correct URL and that the server is properly responding to all requests. (Details: net::ERR_TIMED_OUT)

I tried using Troubleshooting Mode found in this link: https://sitekit.withgoogle.com/documentation/troubleshooting/using-troubleshooting-mode/ and it did not solve the issue.

I recently moved my website to a new host and this problem started once my site was moved to a new host.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Thanks for opening a support topic @salker12. Based on the error you’re encountering, let’s perform some checks to see what the cause may be. To do so, please share the following:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.
    2. When checking the Site Kit dashboard from a Chrome browser incognito window does the same occur? If so, please share any browser console errors that appear.
    3. Do you see any warnings or errors when checking your Site Health status  (Tools > Site Health > Status), which differs from your Site Health information requested above? Such errors may include REST endpoint references.

While we’re reviewing this, you can also check your site performance using the PageSpeed Insights web interface if you wish: https://pagespeed.web.dev/analysis/

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

Hey there. To answer you questions:

    1. I shared my info via the form.
    2. Yes, I get the same error.
Error: Lighthouse returned error: FAILED_DOCUMENT_REQUEST. Lighthouse was unable to reliably load the page you requested. Make sure you are testing the correct URL and that the server is properly responding to all requests. (Details: net::ERR_TIMED_OUT)
    3. No I don’t see any warnings. It says my site is in “Good” health.

      Looking forward to your reply!

Many thanks for sharing the additional information @salker12. From reviewing your Site Health information I can see some plugins which could, with particular configuration, potentially impact a PageSeed Insights request. To check this further, please perform the following steps:

    1. Login to your live site from a Chrome browser incognito window.
    2. Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
    3. Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”.
    4. From the same screen click on the “Available Plugins” tab at the top right and then click on the “Enable” option next to “Site Kit by Google“.
    5. Check for the same error once more within the PageSpeed Insights module on the Site Kit dashboard.

The above will disable all third party plugins for you only, as a logged in user. It won’t impact regular visits to your site.

I also noticed the following: htaccess_extra_rules: true. Changes to a standard htaccess file can also impact your site, so please so let me know how you get on with the above, or ask if you have any questions. Thank you!

Hey there James. As noted in the original ticket, I did this already. I also did it again and it still didn’t work. Thoughts?

Also, all my existing plugins worked with SiteKit just fine before transferring to a new web host, so I would guess on the surface, it isn’t that.

    Any other ideas?

Apologies @salker12, you did indeed check this. To help confirm whether this is host related, given you already checked with only Site Kit active in troubleshooting mode, please perform the following:

    1. Can you confirm that you can see PageSpeed Insights data when checking from this disposable WordPress site?
    2. Do you have any other WordPress sites on the same hosting platforms, from where you can check for the same error? I checked your hosting provider and three is a Softaculous option so you should be able to install another site on a subdomain or subdirectly.
    3. Do you see any invalid XHR responses on the continuous loading screen? If so please share them using the same form previously used, and not publicly here in the forums.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above. Thank you.

    1. Yes, I can confirm that I can see PageSpeed Insights data when checking from the disposable WordPress site.
    2. No, I do not have any other WordPress sites on the same hosting platforms.
    3. I am not sure what you mean by “continuous loading screen” so I loaded my homepage and did what you asked via the form. I have a feeling that isn’t what you wanted since you can do that yourself but you’ll have to clarify your request. I can’t think of anywhere where I have a continuous loading screen.

      Looking forward to your reply.

Appreciate the update @salker12. Are you able to create another WordPress site using any one click installer or Softaculous from your hosting control panel to confirm whether the PageSpeed Insights module loads from there? I ask as there may be a firewall rule or something else blocking reporting. A subdirectory site would be more ideal to a subdomain site, as it would likely use the same resources.

I am not sure what you mean by “continuous loading screen”

Correct that I did not mean to refer to a continuous loading screen. That was from another topic. Can you share any invalid XHR response from the Site Kit dashboard, from the time where you encounter the FAILED_DOCUMENT_REQUEST error? This may help determine any host related block. Given the Correct that I did not mean to refer to a continuous loading screen. That was from another topic. Can you share any invalid XHR response from the Site Kit dashboard, from the time where you encounter the FAILED_DOCUMENT_REQUEST error? This may help determine any host related block. Given the ERR_TIMED_OUT mention I do suspect this is more host related.

Just nothing that from the form you filled in, I can see what looks like some console errors. Does this appear when you load the Site Kit dashboard each time, including from a Chrome browser incognito window?

Please do also share any invalid XHR response when you encounter the same FAILED_DOCUMENT_REQUEST error. Thank you.

To be honest, I don’t work in Chrome Inspect mode very often so I did all of this in Firefox but I did get an interesting error that might shed some light. I sent it to you via the form.

    Looking forward to your reply!

Thanks for the additional information @salker12. Can you check whether the same occurs from a Chrome browser incognito window? I ask as there may be some blocks or something causing a delay from Firefox? I can see some of the files that fail to load in Firefox from what you shared, however, the Err_Timed_Out error you’re facing, along with some moz referenced errors previously indicate a likely browser specific related issue.

Do let me know if the same occurs from Chrome. In additional, if you can share any invalid XHR response as suggested above, that may provider further insights into a browser or webhost based block.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above. Thank you.

Hey James. I am back. I did what you requested and saw some errors. Ideally there would be a secure way to attach a screenshot but I filled out the form. Let me know what you are thinking based on what you see.

Many thanks for sharing the additional information @salker12. From looking at the 400 errors this does seem host server related. Did these errors appear from a Chrome browser incognito window? I ask as this will help rule out any browser related blocks.

Ideally there would be a secure way to attach a screenshot but I filled out the form.

You can use a service such as Loom to share a screen recording, while using the same form previously used to share this privately. Alternatively for screenshots, you can use Imgur or another service. Ideally a recording from the Chrome browser should help us to pinpoint where this error is coming from.

If sharing any invalid XHR response, but demonstrate what you see from the “Response” tab as per this screenshot. This can help indicate a host server related block.

Note also that it would be use to know if the same error occurs from another site on the same hosting platform. I checked your hosting provider when troubleshooting last week, and there is a Softaculous option so you should be able to install another site on a subdomain, or ideally a subdirectory as it would use the same resources. This is just temporarily, to check for a host related issue.

    Thank you.

To answer your question, yes, I did this in a Chrome incognito window. Are you thinking I should take this up with my web host?
