I’m working on a client’s WordPress right now; it is version 6.8.2. I know an update is available, but the update button is missing. All of this is missing, too:

“This site is automatically kept up to date with maintenance and security releases of WordPress only.
Enable automatic updates for all new versions of WordPress. You have the latest version of WordPress.

You have the latest version of WordPress.
    Re-install version 6.8.2 (button)”

The only part that is showing is:

    “Current version: 6.8.2

Last checked on October 7, 2025 at 1:15 pm MST. Check again.”

When I click on “Check again,” the date and time update, but I don’t see an install button or a way to install the current version (6.8.3, 10/7/2025).

    What I have tried:

    • Installed Health check & troubleshooting – followed all the directions testing each plugin.
    • Disabled all plugins, switched to 2025 theme.
    • Windows 11
    • Ionos hosting
    • Chrome Incognito window
    • Firefox
    • Edge
    • Updated to PHP latest recommended version
    • Rolled back to PHP one older than the recommended version.
    • Backed up the site
    • All plugins and themes are up to date

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

I’m guessing that the host has installed a must-use plugin that has disabled the Update button. They likely prefer to only allow updates after they’ve confirmed a new release is fully compatible with their servers. If I’m right, the site will be updated once compatibility has been confirmed.

None the less, it should be feasible to manually update to the latest version via FTP. However, if doing so introduces compatibility issues, you will need to revert back to the current version. All older versions of WP are still available for download, so manually reverting is nearly the same process as manually updating.

Thanks, that did the trick. I will wait to see if the managed server does the next update.

    Thank you!
