• Why is it soooo hard to fix something so simple? This should be a no brainer, yet it is missing in any new version I see.

    When you go to the Updates page and you see:

    An updated version of WordPress is available.
    You can update to WordPress 5.8.1 automatically:

    Why can’t it say :

    You can update FROM WORDPRESS 5.5.3 to WordPress 5.8.1 automatically:

    It’s mind boggling. I just don’t get it.

    In case you mess up the website, you at least know which version worked before updating.

    Really.

  • Best practice is to take a full back up of all files and the database before updating WordPress core. A warning message reminds of this. In case of any issues, the user can restore from the backup.

    Thank you, however I did not ask what the best practice is. Your comment missed the point.

    I know how to use a belt, when getting in the car. This does not prevent a faulty motor to catch fire.
